July 1, 2026Sales and ShowsThe Villages Gem & Mineral Society Artisan Show will be held Sunday February 28, 2027 at Sea Breeze Recreation Center.  The public will be allowed in at 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. As a TVG&MS member you have two options to obtain a table/space at the show. You will need to decide which option you want and follow the directions on the form. Option 1: Members may choose to pay the same fees as non-members. While this cost more, you get to pick your location–room and even spot in the room. In the past, the vendors who have paid this higher rate have been successful at getting their preferred spots. Option 2: You pay the member rate and your name goes into a drawing. You will be assigned a table from the limited number of places remaining. The actual cost depends on the size of your area. The standard size is 6′ x 6′. For that space, with a table and at least 2 chairs, option 1 is $70, option 2 is $35. On Wed, July 1, 2026, Bob Delvaux sent an email to members with all the details and necessary documents. If you did not receive that email and you want to be an exhibitor at the 2027 Gem & Mineral Artisan Show be sure to reach out to Bob. For your convenience the basic information and forms are also included here. Forms must be returned to Bob before Sept 15, but why not do it now rather than risk forgetting? March 27, 2026Classes / Jewelry Making & Wire Wrapping SIGTHE RESULTS ARE IN, SEE BELOW And they look marvelous!Well done.  Basic Wire Wrap a Cabochon Our most recent wire wrapping class was a basic skill that bears repeating: wire wrapping a cabochon When: Thursday, March 26 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm Where: SeaBreeze Recreation Center, Destin Room Instructor: Deb Delvaux What will be covered: we will again learn the basic wire wrap of a cabochon stone. This is such a basic project, it is good to repeat it, and to have it for new members. Tools Required Flat nose pliers Wire cutters Nylon jaw pliers A pencil or something round to shape the bail Tape measure Supplies Required Of course, you will need a cabochon stone. A cabochon is flat on the back and domed on the top. It does not have to be a standard size. I suggest an oval about 18x25mm or larger. Practiced wrappers who have done this before might choose a smaller stone. The stone should have a girdle (edge) about 1-2 mm high. Square wire, dead soft, 20 or 21or 22 gauge Half round wire, dead soft, 20 or 21 or 22 gauge Additional Information Deb will have a few for sale. Stone cutters who have extra to sell, please bring them. Deb will also have some wire for sale for those who don’t have any. The club has recently purchased several bead mats for you to use while in class. They will be stored with the club’s tools, which are also available for use during class. Optional Helpful Items to Bring Tweezer nose pliers Bead mat Magnifiers Lamp Blue painters tape [...] Read more...
February 28, 2026Jewelry Making & Wire Wrapping SIGSince it is business meeting day (be sure to stay for that!) the wire wrapping SIG will have a short session on March 5. That class will be making a double strand stretchy beaded bracelet. But we will fancy it up a little bit. Instead of a single strand, this will be a double strand stretch infinity bracelet. You will need 6mm beads for this also, so when you shop, keep this in mind. This bracelet will need 30 beads in each of 2 colors. You might want to purchase some stretch cord, it comes on a spool. Deb will supply the gold or silver connector beads and will figure out the cost after the order arrives. [...] Read more...
February 28, 2026Jewelry Making & Wire Wrapping SIGIt is always great to see the results of the work from our members. Above is a picture of the Wire Wrapping / Jewelry Making SIG’s finished product from the Feb 26th workshop. By using a different sized or shaped bead the wire wrapped bracelet takes on a different look. Really demonstrates the possibilities when combining the same basic skill with creativity in “beads.” If you want to know more about that project, such as the wire that was used or the beads needed, please see the original class post. February 24, 2026Classes / Jewelry Making & Wire Wrapping SIGBeaded Bracelet When: Thursday, Feb. 26, 2026 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm Where: SeaBreeze Recreation Center, Destin Room Instructor: Deb Delvaux What will be covered: Making a wire wrap beaded bracelet NOTE: Class starts at 6:00 sharp, so arrive a little early to sign in, pay your $1 fee, and find a chair.  Supplies Required 18 gauge soft wire (Artistic is one brand), about 3-4 feet If you don’t have 18 gauge soft wire, then 20 gauge German style wire will work also. 6mm round beads, a strand…enough to fit around your wrist. Be sure your beads fit on the wire you have.  Other info from the Instructor The bracelet closes with a hook and loop, which you will make as part of the wire wrap. I suggest 6mm beads, but other sizes are ok also. This bracelet project was inspired by a bracelet one of our club members made at the Holland School of Lapidary last year. Club members requested this. I will have some beads and wire available for both projects for new members, but not enough for everyone. And my color selection is limited. Price will vary with bead type. Upcoming Sessions The short class on March 5 will be a double strand stretchy beaded bracelet. I will supply the gold or silver connector beads. Deb will figure out the cost after the order arrives. On March 26, we will do a basic cabochon wrap. A cabochon has a domed top and a flat bottom, and no hole. Further instructions and materials needed will be sent later. So, all you stone cutters, now is the time to start making oval cabochons. Make some extras also, for the people you don’t work with stone. I will have a few, but don’t you want to wrap one you made yourself? [...] Read more...

The Villages Gem & Mineral Society-Lapidary Artisans is an organization devoted to the collecting and study of minerals, geology, paleontology and the lapidary arts (stone cutting, polishing, faceting and jewelry making).

Members’ areas of expertise include stone cutting, jewelry making, silversmithing, gem faceting, wire wrapping, beading, metal forming, geology, gemology, fossil collecting, carving, creating mosaics, and more!

No experience is required to become a member of The Villages Gem and Mineral Society–just an interest! However, this organization is only open to residents of The Villages.

New members will be trained in the use of our equipment to shape, cut and polish rocks and minerals as cabochons and faceted pieces and additional techniques, in the lapidary arts.

Our members pay dues that support the purchase and maintenance of equipment dedicated to the lapidary arts. Members teach and encourage each other in the various skills of the lapidary arts.

This website is for the members of The Villages Gem and Mineral Society. Our Mission: To teach new members the lapidary arts, improve on our own skills and to have a good time.

Here members will find educational information, announcements about upcoming events, membership news, etc.

All members must read and abide by TVGMS Safety Standards and be trained in the safe and proper use of each machine before they will be allowed to use the equipment.

The 2026 Annual Artisan Show and Sale is a Wrap!

Yes, there was wire-wrapping as well as all sorts of other goodies on sale from our members and other vendors. We will update our Photo Album  soon, but you can still visit for a taste of some of what the day included in previous years.

The Annual TVGMS Artisan Show

Another Show in the Books

Be sure to mark your calendars for Feb. 28, 2027 for our next Annual Artisan Show. The event will once again be held at Seabreeze Recreation Center, from 10:00am-4:00pm.

This annual event is extremely popular with residents of The Villages and with exhibitors who come from all over the country. And of course, it is an opportunity for members of The Villages Gem and Mineral Society to show off their work, from creating cabochons, to finished jewelry pieces, faceted stones, chain maille, you will be sure to find something to suit your taste and budget.

The show will take up the entire SeaBreeze Rec Center–the rooms will be filled with fabulous wares, raw materials, and live demonstrations on the lapidary arts.

Wire Wrapping SIG

Please check with us about the Wire Wrapping SIG. As of the end of 2023 we are without a coordinator for this Special Interest Group and therefore our sessions are “on hold”.

The Wire Wrapping SIG consists of members who want to focus on various jewelry making techniques, including wire wrapping. This special interest group is open to all members of TVGMS.

Members of this SIG teach classes on a variety of techniques for beginners and those more advanced.

They meet on the 4th Thursday of each month from 6-9pm in the Destin Room for projects and instruction. Members also meet on the 1st Thursday in the Crescent Beach Room (aka the card room) where they can finish projects, socialize and then attend the business meeting.

Field Trips

The group has gone on field trips in the past to places like Rucks Pit, Graves Mountain, Hoggs Mine and the Peace River. We are considering trips back to these places and other places such as museums, mines and beaches.

Field trips will only be scheduled when there is sufficient member interest for the trip. You must arrange your own transportation for a field trip.
